Reliable quality and lots of variety. Plenty of traditional American breakfast items and an unusually high number of choices that come with hollandaise sauce. They have pretty good muffins, too.
I like the fact that they leave a pitcher of coffee on the table.
I’ve been here lots of times, and I’ve rarely been disappointed with the food. The place is always clean and well-maintained, as you would expect for a big, national chain.
This week I saw one of the many hollandaise-covered offerings also has gravy in it. One of those everything-mashed-up-in-a-bowl deals that apparently appeals to Midwestern appetites, the Steakhouse Scrambler comes with grilled sirloin steak strips, sautéed fresh mushrooms, beef gravy, Swiss cheese, creamy Hollandaise sauce. If this doesn’t have enough fat and grease in it for you, maybe you’d just want to order a bowl of hollandaise – I had to try it.
At Perkins, one of the toast choices is pancakes. I like that. I got the pancakes. I also ordered a bowl of oatmeal. The menu item comes with a cup of fruit, and I mixed that with my oatmeal and enjoyed that with my pancakes.
I didn’t enjoy the Steakhouse Scrambler. I ate a few small bites. I do maintain my assertion about reliable quality, though, because the dish was just as described. Some people will really love this dish.
My buddy had the steak and eggs, and he enjoyed it. The steak was cooked to the proper temperature as ordered, which takes some attention on the part of the cook.
